Arm Lift Procedure Timeline

arm lift Beverly Hills

Preparation

During you first consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss specific information about the arm lift procedure. The doctors will ask you general questions about your medical history to determine if you are a good candidate for an arm lift. If you have any concerns about the surgery it is best to ask as many questions as possible in order to prepare the doctor with anymore useful information and to feel confident about your own procedure.Your doctor will examine your arm, and together you will develop a treatment plan that addresses your specific concerns.

During Surgery

The procedure takes approximately three hours to contour both arms, and the doctor will use general anesthesia to put you sleep along with additional numbing injections in the surgical area to control the postoperative pain. The incisions will start either be near the armpit or lower on the arm depending on the amount of tissue being removed, and the vertical incision will continue to the elbow. The doctor will use a hollow stainless steel tube, called the cannula, with the assistance of a powerful vacuum that will remove all pockets of fat to redefine and contour your arms.

Recovery

You will receive proper bandages and elastic wraps for your arms and be prescribed pain medication which may only be necessary for a few days depending on the healing process. There will be a scar extending from the armpit down to the elbow that rests out of sight either along the inside of the arm or along the back of the arm. After the first week, patients can return to work and light activities. However, refrain from any exercise activities or heavy lifting for approximately six weeks to ensure any complications to the scarring and healing process.

Arm Lift Overview

What is an arm lift?

An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, reshapes the under portion of the upper arm by reducing the sagging of excess skin from the underarm region to the elbow. The procedure involves tightening and smoothing out the underlying supportive tissue to define a better shape to the upper arm and reducing contained pockets of fat in the upper arm region.

Why would you want an arm lift?

People can fluctuate in weight throughout their life and simply gain weight due to age or heredity. The upper arms can start to have a drooping appearance because of this. The loose skin and fat harshly affects how people perceive themselves, and their confidence and self esteem may truly suffer no matter how healthy their diets are or how much they exercise. This condition may not be corrected any other way.

Who are the best candidates for an arm lift?

Ideal candidates are adults who have elasticity to their excess upper arm skin to achieve the tightness of the procedure’s objective, and have maintained a relatively stable weight. They should be in good health and have no medical conditions that can impair the healing process or put them at risk during the surgery. It is very important for the candidate to have a positive outlook with realistic expectations.

What can you expect for recovery after an arm lift procedure?

Patients can usually return to work within 2 weeks depending on the healing process. Bandages will be applied over your incisions, and your arm will be put in an elastic wrap to minimize the swelling.
