There will be a scar extending from the armpit down to the elbow that rests out of sight either along the inside of the arm or along the back of the arm. An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, reshapes the under portion of the upper arm by reducing the sagging of excess skin from the underarm region to the elbow. The procedure involves tightening and smoothing out the underlying supportive tissue to define a better shape to the upper arm and reducing contained pockets of fat in the upper arm region.
People can fluctuate in weight throughout their life and simply gain weight due to age or heredity. The upper arms can start to have a drooping appearance because of this. The loose skin and fat harshly affects how people perceive themselves, and their confidence and self esteem may truly suffer no matter how healthy their diets are or how much they exercise. This condition may not be corrected any other way.
Ideal candidates are adults who have elasticity to their excess upper arm skin to achieve the tightness of the procedure’s objective, and have maintained a relatively stable weight. They should be in good health and have no medical conditions that can impair the healing process or put them at risk during the surgery. It is very important for the candidate to have a positive outlook with realistic expectations.
Patients can usually return to work within 2 weeks depending on the healing process. Bandages will be applied over your incisions, and your arm will be put in an elastic wrap to minimize the swelling.
