As we age, the skin starts to become lax, and this is often exacerbated by recent pregnancy, significant weight loss, or even genetic disposition. Breast lift or Mastopexy is designed to remove extra skin and tighten the skin of the breast area, lifting the breasts to a firmer position. A Breast lift is typically performed with an incision made around the dark-pigmented area around the nipple (areola), following down to the crease of the breast. The main criteria for selecting the correct approach for a specific patient is the degree of lifting desired. The looseness of your skin and the amount of breast tissue (glandular and fatty tissue) inside the breast skin are factors that affect your degree of ptosis (drooping).Get the best breast lift Beverly Hills has to offer with our practice. For significant breast droop you should go with the anchor lift which also is referred to as the traditional breast lifts. The anchor lift incision begins similarly to the lollipop but travels along the breast crease, forming an anchor shape. It continues in both directions in the crease where breast and chest meet. This is the most extensive breasts surgery and is usually reserved for patients with advanced ptosis. It may be performed in combination with a breast reduction for women with very large breasts. For women with smaller breasts that have very pronounced drooping, either a saline or silicone implant can be readily placed through the anchor incision. This is the most highly recommended breast lift procedure, and is very effective for women with a long inframammary fold (distance from breast crease to nipple).
The lollipop, also known as the vertical scar mastopexy or as the “key hole” incision, combines a circumareolar incision with a vertical incision. This incision is made around the nipple and continues vertically from the areola to the base of the breast. The lollipop addresses moderate levels of ptosis. This technique reduces drooping by creating a tighter “pocket” of skin to hold the existing breast tissue and is best for women who do not wish to have breast implant inserted. With a circumareolar, or “donut,” breast lift, the incision is made all the way around the areola. This is best used for slight nipple asymmetry addressing mild levels of ptosis causing a mild lift. A doughnut-shaped incision is made around the areola to remove tissue and the skin is then ‘purse-stringed’ to tighten the breast skin. It is less invasive than full mastopexy and is very effective for natural looking results. During this breast list procedure, a flattening effect on the breasts may occur. A patient with smaller breasts might be a candidate for a breast implant with this type of breast lift since there may not be sufficient natural breast tissue to create her desired breast shape and size.
The crescent lift involves a crescent of skin removed at the top of the nipples to improve nipple position and the surrounding skin is reattached to the areola. This type of lift is usually done in conjunction with a breast augmentation, and is suitable only for women with a very small degree of sagging. The crescent addresses minor levels of ptosis and is the least invasive breast lift procedure. Many patients prefer this breast lift procedure because it is usually done in addition with a breast augmentation, an all in one procedure. The results can be very natural looking breasts that take a shorter amount of time to recover from compared to other breast lift techniques.
