Breast Asymmetry Beverly Hills

Breast size asymmetry is the difference in form, position, or volume of the breast. It affects more than half of all women. Typically, asymmetry is more noticeable during puberty. Often, breast size evens out during development. A discussion about the size or shape of a woman’s breasts requires a basic understanding of anatomy.

During a breast asymmetry surgery, evenness is the goal, but perfect asymmetry is unrealistic. Before your procedure, consult with Dr. Kapoor and Dr. Schlenker at their Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery office. You will discuss the methods needed to correct and balance the breasts. Types Of Breasts Asymmetry Correction In Beverly Hills

Size asymmetry

The best asymmetric procedure for the patient depends on a few factors. Both the patient’s goals and the breasts’ degree of asymmetry is considered. For patients who also have drooping, performing a breast reduction on the larger side will reduce and lift the breast. Conversely, the opposite breast is lifted, if uneven. Patients with breast asymmetry who also wish to increase their size will also need breast implant procedure. If the asymmetry is small to moderate, then using different size implants will be enough to achieve symmetry.

Nipple Position Asymmetry

For some of our Beverly Hills patients, concerns are not the size of their breasts but the nipple positioning on the breasts. Some patients have similar breasts, but with one nipple being higher or lower than the other. The difference in nipple positions varies by more than 1 cm. Dr. Kapoor and Dr. Schlenker’s breast lift procedure can be performed on the lower side to match. If the difference is only 1 cm, a Cresent Lift can be achieved. If there is a 2 – 3 cm difference between the nipples, a Circumareolar or Binelli Lift is performed. If the difference in nipple positions is more significant, then a Mastopexy or Breast Lift will need to be performed using incisions that are no longer limited to around the areola.

Areola Asymmetry

Some of our Beverly Hills patients that visit our office for their initial consultation have differences in areola shapes and sizes ranging from significantly small or significantly large, rounded or elongated, depending on the individuals. Areola asymmetry correction can be performed as a combination procedure along with breast asymmetry correction. General anesthesia is used if done in combination with other breast procedures done to contour the breasts shape and sizes. Dr. Kapoor and Dr. Schlenker will establish a specific plan for each of their Beverly Hills patients based on their breast asymmetry and their goals.

    What Is Breast Asymmetry Correction?

    Overly Large Breasts Size

Breast asymmetry, also known as “uneven breasts" can be as dramatic as up to two or three cup sizes different. Varying degrees of droops along with dissatisfied nipple position, must also be considered.

A patient may need a full breast lift on one side and a mini peri-areolar lift on the other. There may also be many variations depending on the patient’s goals.

What Are The Benefits Of Breast Asymmetry Correction?

Breast asymmetry correction has many benefits. It improves balance to the breast size and position on a woman’s body.

Breast asymmetry correction provides greater ease in finding clothing that fits across the chest.

What The Recovery Period Is Like For Breast Asymmetry Correction?

You can expect your new breasts to feel bruised, sore, and tender for the first 48 hours after your surgery. This soreness is entirely normal. Drink fluids and be sure to follow your prescribed medication schedule.

Allow your new breasts enough time to recover. That means no vigorous activities or strenuous exercise for up to six weeks after your breast asymmetry correction. Your stitches are removed in a week and up to 10 days at our Beverly Hills office. The incision scars will be firm and pink for at least six weeks. They will then begin to fade. Allow for about two months for recovery after breast asymmetry correction. The usual follow-ups after breast asymmetry correction are after one week, one month, three and/or six months, and annually from there.

Who Are The Best Candidates For Breast Asymmetry Correction?

The best candidates for breast asymmetry correction are those in good general health. If you think you are a suitable candidate, schedule a consultation today.

You may be the right candidate for breast asymmetry correction if:

    • You are over the age of 18 and are not currently pregnant or nursing
    • You feel psychologically uncomfortable with the differences in the volume, size, and shapes to your breasts.
    • Don’t smoke for at least two months before surgery.
    • You have a positive attitude and realistic expectations.

What You Can Expect During Breast Asymmetry Correction?

Breast asymmetry correction procedures are done under general anesthesia with a board-certified anesthesiologist. Laryngeal mask airways are used on the majority of patients. Yet, those who have a history of reflux or gastroesophageal disease are usually better candidates for endotracheal tube intubation.

A more balanced result is achieved when breast asymmetry correction is combined with other procedures. Breast lift, breast reduction, and breast implants all lend themselves to a more defined silhouette.

Patients under the age of 18 are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The guardian is also expected to be in the same room with the patient during all consultations and pre-operative visits.
