“Breast reduction is one of the many plastic surgery procedures that offer aesthetic and functional benefits for the patient. For women with overly large breasts, even minor tasks can become difficult due to the burden of weight placed on their back and neck. I see many women in my Beverly Hills practice who wish to be able to live their lives pain free so that they can accomplish the goals they have set for themselves. I take great pride in performing this procedure as the immediate physical and psychological benefits are clearly evident. As more women look to breast reduction surgery to enhance their figure and lifestyle, insurance coverage for this procedure is becoming easier to obtain. As a plastic surgeon practicing for years in Beverly Hills, it is exciting to see tremendous gains in beneficial, medically necessary procedures.” –Dr. Kapoor MD
This procedure is considered cosmetic and is not covered by most insurance companies. If the patient displays symptoms of hypermastia, the insurance company may cover part of or the entire procedure
The results of a breast reduction procedure are long-lasting and can be maintained with a healthy lifestyle. Breast size may change with weight gain, pregnancy or weight loss.
Larger breasts can cause back pain, breathing issues and neck pain. All symptoms can be alleviated with the breast reduction procedure.
This procedure will leave scars, but scars can be hidden through strategically placed incisions.
Results can be seen immediately after the procedure. Patients may experience minor swelling which will subside within a few months.
Dr. Kapoor or Dr. Schlenker will meet with each patient individually to assess their candidacy for the breast reduction procedure. The doctor will perform a short exam of the breast area and spend time discussing the patient’s goals for this procedure. He will discuss their concerns and needs for the breast reduction procedure. The doctor will create a customized treatment plan for the patient based off his expertise and the patient’s ideal aesthetic. He will spend educating the patient on the breast reduction procedure and recovery details.
Bruising and swelling should be expected after your breast reduction procedure. You may be swollen for up to three to four months, although this could be very slight and only noticed by you. Your breasts, of course, will be smaller than they were before and higher, so you may not notice swelling too much. Treatment for prolonged swelling includes increasing your fluid intake (preferably water), having normal to low sodium intake, and movement, such as light walking. Other common side effects during recovery include numbness or changes in nipple sensitivity, itching around incision sites, and increased firmness or fullness in the breast tissue.
After your breast reduction procedure, it is important to sleep with at least two or three fluffy pillows under your upper back and head, or on a wedge pillow or a recliner chair, to keep your torso elevated. Sleeping on an elevated level will help relieve pressure for your breast reduction treatment areas, reducing swelling and pain. Our Beverly Hills patients place a pillow under their knees to prevent rolling over during the night. They also place pillows alongside them to create a sort of recovery nest so that they will more at ease during their breast reduction recovery period.
When it comes to showering after your breast reduction operation, you may take sponge baths until your incisions are completely closed and your sutures are no longer in place. You may not be able to wash your hair for a while, because you will not be allowed to raise your hands over your head. If you must wash your hair, have a friend assist you in the sink or basin or with a handheld showerhead. It is important to take your daily activities slowly after your breast reduction procedure to help the healing process recover in a timely manner and not rush the recovery period for a painless and successful breast reduction recovery.
You should not exercise or engage in strenuous activities for at least 3 to 4 weeks after your breast reduction procedure. Don’t lift anything over 5 pounds and try not to raise anything over your head. Take your time in healing so that you give yourself the best healing environment possible. Your full range of motion should return between 6 to 10 weeks, depending on how well you have healed after your breast reduction operation. Within 6 months, you should be able to do all those things you wanted to do but couldn’t because of your oversized chest. A large weight will be listed off your chest and you will feel much happier and lighter on your feet.

You want to reduce your overly large breasts that are causing you to be at risk for health diseases. Overly large breasts, a condition known as macromastia, can also be a source of embarrassment. Your clothes don’t fit the way that it is made and you spend a ton of money tailoring every outfit that you purchase. If you are embarrassed or uncomfortable with having overly large breasts then a breast reduction performed in Beverly Hills is the procedure for you.
You want a breast reduction because the size of your breasts limits your ability to run and exercise. You even dread putting on gym clothes to know that you will again struggle to get out of them. The bodily discomforts you experience may cause more pain to your body than if you were to not exercise. You want a breast reduction in Beverly Hills because you feel dragged down towards the upper half of your body causing slowness in breath and harder to breathe during your workouts.
You want a breast reduction because you have difficulty breathing and sleeping at night. Your overly large breasts are making it difficult to breathe whether you are sleeping, talking, or exercising. The shortness of your breathe is due to the heaviness in your chest that no medicine can relief. Talking to others can be embarrassing as well if you are self-conscious about your breathing. You want a breast reduction to help feel more confident about your body when you conversed with others.
You have indentations from bra straps trying to support the weight of your breasts, you have enlarged areolas caused by stretched skin, and your nipples hang down under the breast crease. A breast reduction performed in Beverly Hills by cosmetic plastic surgeons Dr. Kapoor and Dr Schlenker is the procedure for you if the skin under the breast crease gets irritated as you put on your bra. In addition, your breasts hang low and the skin surrounding your chest is stretched causing more stretch marks as you age.
You want a breast reduction because you are having back, neck and/or shoulder pain caused by the weight of your breasts. In addition, you want a breast reduction because you are having difficulty sleeping or laying down flat on an everyday basis. Irritation can cause joint and muscle pain leading to chronic diseases and metabolism issues. It is best to avoid any pain to the neck, back, and shoulders before it becomes chronic as you age.
Dr. Kapoor & Dr. Schlenker are Board-certified Plastic Surgeons who performs body, breast, and facial procedures in Beverly Hills & Los Angeles, California in their fully accredited Cosmetic Surgery Center.
